Back in my ThinkTank days, I used Hoisting, which allowed a single document in the tree to be isolated (hoisted) from the entire tree. It would of course be hoisted with all subordinate documents and might constitute an entire presentation. In such cases, the rest of the topic tree might be a distraction whether working on the presentation or actually presenting it.

Think of hoisting as analagous to highlighting information that one intends to view or work with, and hide all distracting information from view.
