Please consider an alternative interface. A ribbon bar as in Office?

Ribbons are really awful in my opinion.

If such a horrible feature is being considered  please make it optional like Libre office and not mandatory like Microsoft Office.

Ribbons were introduced by Microsoft because they consider touch screens are the future, they think that portable devices and tablets will take over.

With a touch screen you don't have the precision of a mouse so the icons are bigger but it takes up a very large chunk of the screen, bad news if you have a small screen. Ribbons offer no advantage over the menu / toolbar interface apart from the large icons which are good for people with poor eyesight.

I too am not a fan of ribbon toolbars. I really can't understand exactly what type of advantage they are supposed to bring for the user of desktops systems. With ribbon menus, the menu items constantly change and I have to search endlessly for the function I want.

In addition, they rely too heavily on icons. I really don't like icons very much because then I have to memorize what the icon means. Are words not mnemonic devices that use letters rather than icons, to convey information? Words are far easier to understand than icons, and I usually do not have to guess what they mean.

Before editing this post I had said that the ribbon bar takes up too much screen real estate, but actually a side-by-side comparison reveals that with all the tool bars enabled, MyInfo takes up even more space. But I usually hide MyInfo's favorites bar, so without it, the space is about the same. :| You can also save more space by hiding the formatting bar.

I still think that the ribbon interface is bit more crowded, complicated and confusing and doesn't really offer a compelling improvement over the simple menu/toolbar interface which MyInfo currently uses.

If the choice is between MyInfo’s current user interface and the Microsoft ribbon bar, I will certainly keep the current interface. I don’t even need the latter as an option at the expense of bulking up the code.
