Stange new file.. (conflicted copy)

Post by ozstar »

HI,

As I opened MyInfo on my PC I notice that there was a new file in /dropbox/MyInfo/Topics which was not there before.

It was named the same as our primary file but with a bracketed explanation)

Amaia-Henry-April (HP-starlite's conflicted copy 2012-11-17).mio Dated 18/11/2012 11.32 AM 7,050KB

The normal file as also there..

Amaia-Henry-April.mio Dated 18/11/2012/10/08 6.455 KB

I went an looked at the Laptop and it was the same.

Both files appear to be the same according to the documented in the left pane.

Any ideas what may have cause this and which file do I continue to use?

Thanks

Hi,

On further investigation, I noticed that the laptop with Win 7 Home has a Program File and Program File (x86).

Strangely some files have been installed into PF whilst others have been sent to PF x86.

It seems MyInfo has the latter but it is looking for..

\Program Files\Milenix\MyInfo 6\Config\Sample Tips\MtInfo Tips.mio whereas it is in Program File (x86)

What is the best way to get around this please/

Thanks

It seems that you have placed a copy of MyInfo inside Dropbox (rather than My Topics and Application Data folders only). Is that true?

I think the best way would be to install the portable edition there, or share just the My Topics folder. If you are still using MyInfo trial, I can send you a copy of MyInfo Portable Trial too.

Hi Petro,

Firstly congratulations on a great program. I hope more get to know about it.

Have just purchased the full copy so now I have the Portable edition if I need to use it.

Should I reinstall the bought MyInfo download on my boxes, or is it fine I leave the 6.11 ( 1 week old) trial there?

Now to the strangeness.. :-)

I have MyInfo in Dropbox on 3 boxes named..

BUB-THREE - HP-Starlite - WEBMAIN

These are the entries in ALL 3 boxes.

/Dropbox/MyInfo/Backup/
/Dropbox/MyInfo/Backup/
Amaia-Henry-April (HP-starlite's conflicted copy 2012-11-17)
Amaia-Henry-April (HP-starlite's conflicted copy 2012-11-17).Verified
Amaia-Henry-April.mib
Amaia-Henry-April.Verified.mib
MyInfo Tips.mib

/Dropbox/MyInfo/Documents/
(empty)

/Dropbox/MyInfo/Topics/
Amaia-Henry-April (BUB-THREE's conflicted copy 2012-11-20)
Amaia-Henry-April (HP-starlite's conflicted copy 2012-11-17) (HP-starlite's conflicted copy 2012-11-20).mio
Amaia-Henry-April (HP-starlite's conflicted copy 2012-11-17).mio
Amaia-Henry-April.mio
Default.miw

In MyInfo Options 'SAVE' I have..

Topics: C:\Users\David|Dropbox\MyInfo\Topics
Linked Files: C:\Users\David|Dropbox\MyInfo
Import/export files: C:\Users\David|Dropbox\MyInfo
Backup files: C:\Users\David|Dropbox\MyInfo\Backup

I have the 3 Auto Save options On.

Can you guide me for a better install please.

Thanks,

Probably the best strategy will be to install a fresh copy of MyInfo 6.11 Portable in Dropbox and place all your existing topics in the My Topics folder under the installed folder.

MyInfo Portable keeps all settings, files, customizations and plugins in subfolders of its main folder, so it should be easier to manage it that way.

If anybody else is using MyInfo Portable with DropBox, please share your setup with us :)

Hi,

Okay I have now installed the Portable version into the Dropbox directory in one of my PC's.

I notice that two of the Saves are to the new install into Dropbox dir, whilst 'Linked files and Import/Export' are in /Docs Settings/David/

I noticed that one of the Conflicted files contained more recent entries than the primary one. So I don't lose any recent entries, can I just rename the one that is most up to date and start again with it as the primary doc?

Is there anything else I have to do?

By the way, I forgot to explain but my previous installs were actually not into Dropbox but on the boxes. I only put the data folders into Dropbox.

Thanks..

Hi,

I did take the latest data file, renamed it and placed it in the Dropbox/MyInfoPortable/Topics folder.

I also went to the Dropbox folder in each of the computers and created a shortcut from the Portable 'Myinfo.exe' file to the Desktop.

Did some text entry tests and searches and it all seems to be working fine.

I will continue to test and see what happens.
