[fixed in MI6.35b4441] Program freeze

Using MyInfo Pro 6.35.4375 under Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

Have meant to report this earlier. If I copy a web address (for example, https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/17/nyre ... -news&_r=0) and use the keybinding (CTRL+WIN+Q) to paste this into the tree as a new note, the program freezes. It can only be stopped by killing it. Task Manager shows 0% CPU and the memory is normal.

I have replicated this on other machines with a variety of Windows OSes.

Does anybody else have this problem? I am not able to reproduce it, unfortunately..

It doesn't happen here either. I tried three different ways: CTRL+Win+Q, Edit > Paste, and Insert Web Document. All three works. I am running Windows 10 (latest update) with the latest version of MI.

It continues to happen for me. I have almost 800 clipped articles from the web. About half of these contain images. The file is 144MB.

It is happening sporadically under other circumstances, but I have to narrow those down. Meanwhile, I can reproduce with 100% reliability if I follow the procedures in my original post. Did you try the link to the web page?

What happens is the program appears responsive, but it is not. I can get the menus to drop down but all options are greyed out. I have tried leaving MI alone for hours without any change. I then use task manager to close it. The data that was saved previously is not lost, but all unsaved work during the crashed session is gone.

I tried the link to the NYT web page, and it works fine for me. Am able to paste it in the document tree and view the web document (page) including images in the internal and external browser without issues. The size of the topic is also not an issue as it worked in both smaller and larger (than 144 MB) topics without any noticeable difference in behavior.

Not sure, but have you reviewed Tools > Options > Browser?

Try highlighting the linl in the address bar of your browser. Copy the highlighted link. Now use the keyboard (CTRL+WIN+Q) to paste this into MI.

Is this working for you?

Did exactly that, and it's working.

Thanks for confirming. I don't understand why we have different results.

Just to inform you, Jon:

I also tried it (with the link provided by you and with the method you mention). Here with Windows 7 Home Premium, 32 bit. There was no freezing of the program.

Thank you for this suggestion. After much resistance, I ticked the option to automatically open web pages. MI does not freeze with this option selected. However, for me this is not the desired behavior so I will leave the option unchecked. To avoid problems I will have to refrain from copying links into the tree. But still, can this be fixed (assuming it is broken)?

You say that this happens with all your machines. Do they use the same Internet connection? Probably this has something to do with the problem. Also, do you use the same set of options?

No, different connections. Yes, same options. But read my previous post. It will not freeze as long as I select the option to automatically open web pages. I hope this can be resolved, because I prefer this option to be turned off.

Jon, the problem is fixed in the latest build of MyInfo 6.35. You can upgrade either by using Help > Check for Update or using the download link from the MyInfo 6.35 update email.
