[added] How do I create a Date Search?

Post by LMG »

What are the search terms to find all notes in a notebook that were created on or after a certain date?

Thank you.

Here is what I needed to do...

There was a conflicted copy of a Notebook and I wanted to see what notes might have been created on the date of the conflict to merge them into the regular Notebook.

Here is what I did (but it will only work per Section)...

My Section default was in Tree perspective
I created a new List perspective
I added the Created date column

Then I can sort the dates in ascending or descending order allowing me to focus on the dates I need. Not perfect but a workaround until we have that function. Perhaps you could add the Created attribute to the Filter Section notes.

I just saw that I can customize the List perspective to Filter by date, and although it is also per Section, the List perspective can be duplicated to run through other Sections

Date search was added in MyInfo 7.1.
Hi Petko!
Thank you for this but I can not figure out how to make this work. Here's what I've done.
To test, I have a notebook open, and created a note today 6/11/2021 (using format shown in Section Created column)
In Global Search, limited search to "In This Notebook" and
created:6/11/2021

It does not find any matching notes. I can't make any of the date searches work so I must be formatting incorrectly. I entered modified example from the help file (updated:day) and it found a random note in the notebook with the created date of 5/2/2021 but I don't know why.

Edited Updated:
Also tried
created:2021-0531 and it returned a note created on 6/11/2021
created:20210501 and it did return everything since 5/1/2021

How do I format to search for a particular date like 5/31/2021
I tried created:20210531 but it returned notes that were not created on that date

What am I doing wrong?

Regards,
Linda

Linda, you have properly observed that searching for a date returns all dates on and after the specified date. Please see the Search in Dates section in the manual (scroll down from here: https://manual.myinfoapp.com/#_search).

In order to search for a specific date you can use a range, for example:
created:20210501 -created:20210502

This will return notes that were created on and after 01.05.2021 and before 02.05.2021, which are practically only the notes created on 01.05.2021.

If there is however much demand for specific date search, I might consider adding some modifier to allows searches on a specific date without the need of ranges.

As for the date format, please refer again to the manual for what is allowed.

Ahh I see. This is syntax I am not familiar with. I see I can create a search for a specific date; 6/11/2021 by

created:20210611 -created:20210612

I did not realize I could compound them. And I am chagrined to admit that when I started my post I had not read far enough into the Help manual

As always, thank you for your assistance!

I wasn't aware of this either, thanks for explaining that. Is that in the manual about selecting date range selection yet? I need to go through it again, there's been a lot of cool changes.

Thanks,
Larry
