cut-paste document between topics, styles get lost

I have a source topic and a destination topic with the same set of paragraph styles in each. I frequently copy one or more source documents to the clipboard, and then paste them into the destination topic. Sometimes paragraphs with matching style don't come over properly to the destination topic -- especially after the source topic has gotten large. The problem is that MyInfo sometimes assigns the Destination paragraphs a style *Custom with font size 1 instead of giving them their style from the source topic.
I have two topic files that demonstrate the problem. How can I get them to you?
