Is there a way to open a link simply by clicking on the link without having to use Ctrl + Click?

Yes, assuming you mean in the Editor / Notes (Tree bookmarks you double click).

Tools > Options > Advanced - (Under "Compatibility")
Check the box - Editor: Single mouse click opens hyperlinks.
