[solved] MyInfo 7.3 portable crashing immediately

Post by mzpe »

Hello,

I just installed the latest 7.3 portable version of MyInfo.

However, when I run the app it immediately crashes (see attached screenshot).

For more background:
  • I am running Windows 10 21H2 19044.1706
  • MyInfo 7.2 [7182] continues to run fine on my system.
Solution:
The fix for me was to update the Visual C++ Redistributable I have installed.

You can grab the latest x86 and x64 packages here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/wi ... -vc-redist

As a preliminary measure: do you probably use some antivirus that might be blocking some file in the new release? Can you temporary dactivate it?

I only have the built-in "Microsoft Defender" and disabling it seems to have no effect. Same error occurs.

I also tried running with Administrator permissions but that didn't help either.

If it's just my system having this problem then I'll do some searching and see if I can find a solution. I will post again if I find anything useful :D

OK it would appear this was not specifically a MyInfo problem :D

That's interesting. Generally MyInfo includes all MS re-distributable files that it needs, but probably some slipped through..

No problem, I'm just glad the fix wasn't too complicated.

Hello,

I get the same error message as shown in post #1 when trying to start the trial of version 8 (8.0.0.7860).

My system: Windows 10 Home (Version 21H2 / 19044.2846)

PS:
By the way: This measure did not work for me:

Have you managed to fix the problem?

If not, please also install the x64 redistributables and see if it helps.

I was not aware that there is also the x64 build of the Visual C++ Redistributable on the website given by mzpe. But I installed it now and indeed it helps: MyInfo 8 is running now. :D

Of big importance is the word "also" in your above posting. I had to install both the x86 and the x64 redistributables so that it works.

This issue should no longer happen with MyInfo 8.2 and newer versions.
